St Peter's Church, The Present and The Past

A Statement by the PCC of St. Peter’s Church, Petersham,

with regard to the Black Lives Matter Debate

1) The present

The PCC of St Peter's intends to continue to take forward the worship and mission of the church affirming equally the abilities of all the diverse membership of our community.

2) The past

Commemorated in the church building and churchyard of St Peter’s are many who history has judged to have served their community and country well. However, as you might expect in such an ancient church as St Peter’s there are people also commemorated in the building and churchyard who benefitted from slavery which history has rightly condemned.
