Advent Sequence of Music and Readings

Music for Advent Sunday

Members of the Elysian Singers will join our Choral Scholars for Sunday's Advent Sequence.

The following music has been chosen to complement the readings you will hear this year:

Choir:

Advent Prose:‘Rorate Coeli’, plainchant with words from the Book of Isaiah

This is the truth sent from above (Ralph Vaughan Williams)

This is the record of John (Orlando Gibbons)

I wonder as I wander (trad. Appalachian carol arr. Jacob Niles)

Ubi Caritas (Ola Gjeilo)

Spy, Isuse, Spy (Ukrainian carol arr. Roxanna Panufnik)

Organ:

Nun Komm, der Heiden Heiland (JS Bach BWV 659)

Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (JS Bach BWV 645)

Spy, Isuse, Spy (‘Sleep, Jesus, Sleep’) is Roxanna Panufnik’s arrangement of a beautiful Ukrainian lullaby-style carol. Released this Christmas, its sales and performances are raising valuable funds for the Refugee Council, whose work helps refugees of many nationalities to create a stable new life here in the UK.
