Hugh Cullum – The Lancelot Andrewes Medal

Hugh, our Inspecting Architect, has been awarded the Lancelot Andrews Medal by the Bishop Christopher. The medal is awarded to a lay person who has made a significant contribution to the mission of the Diocese.

Hugh has been the Inspecting Architect at St Peter's for more than two decades. During this time Hugh has enabled a restoration of the nave and chancel of St Peters in a way that has improved the ambience of the building greatly and had a major impact on the worship of the church. Hugh also played a central role in the planning and building of the Parish Room extension to St Peter's (completed in 2018) which has greatly improved the facilities for teaching and mission activity. It took seven years to obtain the necessary permissions for this project ,for much of this time Hugh gave his services free of charge. The extension to the building has a had a direct impact on the scope of our work with young people and other aspects of our Mission Action Plan. Hugh is also the Inspecting Architect for St Michael's Barnes where he designed and supervised the building of the Community Hall extension, another project that has had had a significant impact on the mission of a parish.

“Unity Against Loneliness”, Monday 26th April at 7.30 pm

Richmond Inter Faith Forum invites people from Richmond, Kingston, Hounslow and neighbouring areas - especially those from minority and refugee backgrounds - to join this online event. It follows the successful "Unity in Crisis" event last November. As we look forward to the end of lockdown, "Unity against Loneliness" provides a unique opportunity for local people from different religion or belief backgrounds (including the non-religious) to consider a subject that can affect anyone, and is so often invisible to everyone else. What is loneliness? (It's not as obvious as you might think.) How do we experience it? What steps can we take to alleviate it? The event will start with a video by the distinguished cultural historian, Fay Bounds-Alberti, who offers a new and different perspective, followed by a short talk by Cathy Maker, Chief Executive of RUILS, the leading local independent living charity, to consider the practicalities. We'll then break into smaller groups to give everyone an opportunity to hear the views of other local people they might otherwise not meet, and - if they wish - to share their own views. We'll then come back together to hear the feedback and any actions. Everyone living in south west London is welcome.
